Candidate goes to Supreme Court to get on governor ballot

Cleveland physician Jon Heavey on Wednesday sued in the Ohio Supreme Court to get on the ballot for the May 8 Democratic primary for governor. He is arguing that boards of elections in several counties improperly threw out signatures on petitions he filed to run.

Heavey, who announced his candidacy days before the Feb. 7 deadline to file petitions, is a political newcomer who said he would spend $1.5 million of his own money seeking the governorship. He filed petitions with 2,185 signatures of registered voters — more than twice as many as the 1,000 required.
